Throughout this class, I have gained a much greater understanding of educational research. One of the first things I learned about was the definition of educational research and how to effectively locate research articles. Through the KSU library, we are able to search for a wide variety of research articles. The library also provides the option to search specifically for peer-reviewed articles. While going through these articles I have gained the ability to find the research problem, topic, purpose, question, and hypothesis. I have also gained a much greater understanding of quantitative and qualitative research designs and methods. I can now locate elements of higher quality quantitative and qualitative research. While looking at a qualitative study I can determine the type of studies such as case study, narrative research, ethnography, or grounded theory. All of these topics have helped me to critique research and create a literature review as I developed my capstone proposal.
My greatest concern about educational research was my ability to find quality research studies in a timely fashion. The KSU library has helped with this concern as it puts many quality research articles at my fingertips. This course has also helped me determine what to look for in a quality study. With the ability to quickly find the research problem, topic and purpose I have become much more efficient in finding quality research articles. The Capstone Proposal has also given me the opportunity to search for research articles and incorporate them into my writing. This hands-on experience is what helped me the most.

Through research, I am able to find ideas and tools that can be incorporated into the classroom. Ideas and tools that are supported by data and have been peer-reviewed should give me a much greater understanding of their impact on the classroom. I am also much more comfortable sharing these ideas with others if I know that they have been successfully used in a classroom. Using research, I can promote the effective use of technology throughout my school.
