Artifact: Data Overview
Reflection:
This artifact is the field experience log for a one-hour instructional technology workshop that I conducted. The outline contains links to handouts, online component, evaluation instrument, evaluation summary, objectives, standards, materials needed and a process for completing the session. This experience gave me the opportunity to think about every detail that is necessary for a successful profession learning session. I created this workshop based on needs that were identified throughout my school. I also implemented the session with several teachers. The online component also made it possible for teachers to revisit the session and work though the content at their own pace.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 6.3. The standard states that I can engage in appropriate field experiences to synthesize and apply the content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions identified in these standards. This shows that I can engage in appropriate field experiences as I led a workshop. I spent significant time planning this workshop and completed coaching sessions after the workshop took place. I am also able to synthesize and apply the lessons learned from this experience. I learned many lessons through the creation and implementation of this field experience. I am more comfortable with the process of preparing for professional learning. It is important to be prepared as the workshop may not go as planned. I am more confident with adapting to meet the needs of all participants involved.
Through creating this artifact, I feel that I have learned much more about conducting professional learning. It takes a great deal of planning in order to lead an effective professional learning session. Similar to working with students, it is essential to develop a lesson plan. It is also important to think about possible questions that may arise throughout the session. This extra work to think about every possible question will help ensure a smooth session. If I could change anything about this experience, I wish that I could have had more time. I had an ambitious goal of covering a lot of material. It is a tough balancing act between respecting my colleagues’ time and spending enough time talking about each resource in order to ensure understanding.
The work that went into this artifact has already had an impact on school improvement, faculty development and student learning. The faculty is already receiving additional professional learning for using and incorporating technology into their classes. Teachers who have begun incorporating technology have affected student learning. These resources are providing opportunities for students to personalize their learning and gain a much greater understanding of the content. Anytime you improve student learning and develop the faculty I feel that the school is improving. This impact can be assessed through benchmark assessments, state tests, and class walkthroughs.
