1.2 Strategic Planning
Candidates facilitate the design, development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans. (PSC 1.2/ISTE 1b)
Artifact: SIP and Tech Plan Analysis
Reflection:
This artifact is an analysis of a school improvement plan and technology plan. This was the beginning of my work in creating a shared vision for my schools technology plan. This artifact involves an analysis of the schools mission and vision. Targeted areas of improvement were identified. The needs of diverse learners were considered especially low SES and gender groups. The district technology plan was also analyzed. The district would like to increase the access to technology, the use for instruction, the use for administration, parent and community use, and maintain system readiness for technology. Analysis of all of these plans give me a much greater understanding for where the district and school are trying to go with technology.
This artifact demonstrates my ability to master standard 1.2. This artifact allowed me to facilitate the design, development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of technology infused strategic plans. The creation of this artifact gave the opportunity to analyze several different plans related to technology. After analyzing these plans, I am able to assess the needs and goals of a school. This gives me the ability to design a technology infused strategic plan that addresses the needs and goals of a school and district. Working with a team, I was able to develop a plan that addresses the professional learning needs. After developing the plan, we began implementing the plan with a group of initial adopters of the schools learning management system. This group of initial adopters will be expended until all faculty are involved. Several methods were used to communicate these goals with stakeholders. Examples of communication included e-mail, discussions at department professional community meetings, and informal conversations. The initial phase of this plan is being evaluated based on teacher surveys and student assessments. The goal of the evaluation is to see if the plan is addressing the needs of stakeholders who are directly involved.
Through creating this artifact, I learned a gained a lot of experience in looking through plans that have been created by the district and school. This experience has made me much more efficient at searching through these plans. I also gained great experience with working with colleagues. I had the opportunity to interview colleagues and see what their needs were. I also had the opportunity to coach colleagues. If I were to create this artifact again, I would attempt to collaborate more with the creators of the plans that I analyzed. Doing this would give me a better perspective and understanding of what they intended to accomplish with their plans.
The work that went into this artifact has already had an impact on school improvement, faculty development and student learning. Several teachers are increasing the amount of technology used in their classrooms. These teachers and others throughout the school will continue to receive professional development from the county and support from the Blended Learning and Support Team. We are hoping to create a campaign that spreads to all teachers in the school. Students are benefiting from the increased engagement that they are experiencing in their classes. They are also benefiting from opportunities for personalized learning and differentiation that is available. This impact will be measured based on benchmark assessment data, state tests, walkthrough data, and teacher surveys.
