2.1 Content Standards & Student Technology Standards
Candidates model and facilitate the design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences aligned with student content standards and student technology standards. (PSC 2.1/ISTE 2a)
Artifact: Engaged Learning Project
Reflection:
This artifact is an engaged learning project completed in the fall of 2017. The purpose of this project was to create an assignment that encourages students to reach higher LoTi Levels. Students are working in groups. They are collecting data from a determined population. Students were expected to analyze their data and create a presentation. They had the opportunity of taking on a professional role and sharing their product with individuals outside of the school. This addresses all levels of Blooms Taxonomy and high LoTi Levels. I analyzed standards that this project would address. I also created learner objectives, an introduction, and a process for completing the project, described how technology could be used, and found opportunities for students to share their work to a broader audience.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 2.1. The standard states that I can design and implement technology enhanced learning that is aligned with student content standards and student technology standards. This project is directly aligned with common core standards for statistics and language arts. This allows the final product to come from two different courses. As an experienced teacher, I am confident that I am capable of designing material that is aligned to the student content standards. For this project, I worked directly with the language of the standards in order to ensure that the assignment would address those standards. This project also directly addresses several student technology standards. Specific technology standards include ethical use, research strategies, data analysis, and data collection, identifying appropriate tools, collaboration, and publishing their work. This artifact clearly describes my ability to model and facilitate the design and implementing this project in any classroom. The plan clearly lays out the steps for implementing this project. This description includes the checkpoints that students will work through, objectives that they are trying to meet, technology that should be used, and the product that will be created.
This project really opened my eyes to the potential of technology creating an engaging learning environment. I was able to create an opportunity for students to use technology to research a topic. They were also able to collaborate with peers within their classroom and mentors outside of the classroom. They were also able to share their work with a broad audience. If I were to do anything differently with this project, I would attempt to include more of a variety of subjects. Currently the task addresses standards in a math and language arts classroom. It is possible for students to work in their history classroom to identify historical significance of their data. They could also link their project to things that they are learning in their science course. This would be a great opportunity for students to see how everything is connected.
This project will have an impact on school improvement, faculty development, and student learning. I now have a much greater understanding about how technology can have an impact in the classroom. As I become more comfortable with using this technology, I will share it with other members of the faculty. As more faculty members implement these strategies student learning will be positively impacted. All of this will lead to school improvement. This impact can be assessed through benchmark assessments, state tests, and classroom walkthroughs.
