Artifact: Shared Vision Paper
Reflection:
This artifact is a paper written about a school technology vision. It was written during the Instructional Technology Leadership class in the spring of 2019. The purpose of this paper is to create a shared vision of technology use that will be beneficial for all stakeholders. The paper includes a vision statement, rationale, diversity considerations, and roles that all stakeholders will assume for this vision. As a member of my schools Blended Learning and Support Team, I had a previous understanding of the schools current use and needs for technology. I conducted interviews and observed several stakeholders in order to gain a greater understanding of the current technology use and vision.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 1.1 Shared Vision. The standards states that candidates will facilitate the development and implantation of a shared vision. I gathered information about technology use and needs through previous knowledge, district plans, school improvement plans, interviews of stakeholders, and observations of classrooms. The school improvement plan was a great starting point for connecting the technology-shared vision to goals that are already in place for the school. I was able to use this information to develop a vision that addresses the goals and needs for all stakeholders. As a member of the Blended Learning and Support Team, I was able to share this vision with technology leaders at my school. As a team, we are working to implement many of the aspects that are present in the shared vision that I helped to create.
Through creating this artifact, I feel that I have learned much more about my school. I now have a much greater understanding about how technology is being used throughout the building. There are varieties of needs that are present in order to make these goals a reality. We are still striving to become a 1:1. This will be a motivating factor for teachers to buy in. There is also a need for professional development and digital equity for all students. If I could change anything, it would be to have created this sooner. It would be great if this plan were created several years ago and we were much closer to reaching our goal. I would also like to get even more stakeholder input. It would be beneficial to have more input from parents and community members. Their ownership of the plan would also increase their involvement.
The work that went into this artifact has already had an impact on school improvement, faculty development and student learning. The faculty is already receiving additional professional learning for using and incorporating technology into their classes. Teachers who have begun incorporating technology have affected student learning. These resources are providing opportunities for students to personalize their learning and gain a much greater understanding of the content. Anytime you improve student learning and develop the faculty I feel that the school is improving. This impact can be assessed through benchmark assessments, state tests, and classroom walkthroughs.
